POST-OPERATIVE PHYSICAL THERAPY
Post-operative physical therapy helps you safely rebuild strength, restore mobility, reduce pain, and return to the activities you love after surgery. At R3 Physical Therapy, you receive one-on-one care with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who works directly in tandem with your surgeon to ensure your rehab aligns with your specific procedure and post-op guidelines. Your program is individualized—not rushed, not cookie-cutter, and never driven by arbitrary timelines. Every progression is based on surgical precautions, tissue healing, clear communication with your medical team, and measurable milestones so you recover efficiently, safely, and confidently.

GOALS OF POST-OPERATIVE PHYSICAL THERAPY
-
Reduce pain and swelling
-
Restore joint mobility and flexibility
-
Improve strength and muscular control
-
Rebuild balance, stability, and functional movement
-
Protect the surgical site while promoting proper healing
-
Progress safely through each phase of recovery
-
Prepare for sport, work, and daily activity
-
Prevent compensations, setbacks, and re-injury
WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR SESSIONS
Your post-operative sessions are fully individualized and based on where you are in your healing—not just the number of weeks since surgery. Every patient begins with an initial evaluation, where your Doctor of Physical Therapy assesses your surgical site, range of motion, strength, and functional movement. This evaluation also serves as the start of your treatment plan, so you begin progressing safely from day one.
Typical sessions may include:
✔ Early, safe range of motion exercises to restore mobility and prevent stiffness
✔ Guided mobility and flexibility work
✔ Strength training tailored to your surgery and goals
✔ Neuromuscular re-education and movement retraining
✔ Hands-on manual therapy or soft tissue work as appropriate
✔ Modalities when beneficial (BFR, manual therapy, etc.)
✔ Home program updates to support faster progress
✔ Ongoing milestone-based testing (ROM, strength, gait, function)
✔ Clear education about what you can safely do between sessions
Every visit is 1:1 so you get full attention, proper progressions, and modifications when needed.
